A pet peeve of mine that none of my friends understand is then they do this sort of thing in comic books. I’m not talking about Atlantis or Themyscira, which are mystically hidden islands in-universe. I’m not even talking about Wakanda, which is debatably a borderline case, being right in the middle of Africa, but is still hidden-ish.
But when the writer wants the Justice League to go to the Middle East but doesn’t want to commit to any real-world country so they go to “Bialya” I’m like??? Where the hell is Bialya? Point to it on a map! What real-world country has to be smaller to make room for it? What is it’s socio-political impact on the world, on history?
I know this probably seems a weird place to draw the line on my willing suspension of disbelief, but I stand by it.
we should set more tv shows in fake US states the way we make up fake european countries for disney channel originals and hallmark movies
#oh we don't want to offend any real-world nation#Then don't make their portrayal offensive genius!#plus none of the writers coordinate so there's like 5 fictitious middle eastern countries#I'm fine with the made up cities though#Though maybe I shouldnt be when they're as major as Metropolis or Gotham#I guess I'm just aware that there are a million cities I've never heard of
